This past summer several classes were sponsored by the Mandir – a cooking class, a class on Astronomy, and a quilting class.
A cooking class was held for pre-college teens and young undergraduates, called “Beyond Pasta.” Needless to say, the participants did not cook pasta! The five participants cooked a nutritious dinner using recipes from HTCC’s Masala Magic cookbook. The cooked Corn Salad, Lemon Rice, Cucumber Raita, Green Beans with Moong Dal, and Rajma. Topped off with rice and naan, they cooked the meal in under two hours, and ate it too! we are looking forward to hearing about their in-college culinary experiences!
A class on Astronomy was held at the Mandir, attended by 8-10 participants. They learned about the fundamentals of astronomy, examined some cool instruments, and went away with complimentary copies of texts.
Five members attended the quilting class. They learned the basics of making a quilt block. Some participants plan to make a cushion from the block, while others plan to make a bag. Presentations used in the class are available below.
